Persuasive writing techniques have proven themselves invaluable in the course of history. They have been used to write speeches for campaigns, elections and appeals. They have been used by students begging for second chances, employees hoping to get pay raises, and volunteers asking for sizeable donations.

But how difficult is it to master the se methods? In all honesty, persuasive writing techniques aren’t that hard to learn. Read on to find out more!

persuasive writing skills

1) Start off on the right foot.

If you are  willing to write an effective and persuasive letter, you must know (above all) how to write correctly.

Grammar is always important and typos are unforgiveable. This is especially important if you’re writing for an intelligent audience. Critics will always be there to study your work, so make sure it is flawless from the start.

Most people, when they hear the word grammar, think of lots of useless, boring rules that they were forced to learn in school. If your grammar is poor, then the reader is left with thoughts of whether or not you really know what you are talking about. If you can’t write properly, how can you really the subject matter you are writing about authoritatively. So, yes, in this instance good grammar usage is important.

2) Use the right words.

What we want is to grab someone’s attention, hold their interest, and in most instances, we want some kind of response to what you’ve written. So, we need to use the words wisely for a more persuasive writing.

Some words are more persuasive than others. For example, instead of writing, “It is important that we save the bird sanctuary,” we should say, “It is critical that we save the bird sanctuary.” Bring in a sense of urgency using words that have more weight.

3) Put yourself in their shoes.

When it comes to persuasive writing techniques, it is key that you write with your audience in mind. You want to persuade others to act or think a certain way, so focus your article on what matters most to them and not what you deem personally important.

If by chance they coincide, then you shouldn’t have a hard time writing your persuasive article at all.

4) Cite reasons why.

People will always ask the question why. Why should we listen to you? Why should we buy this product? Why should you get our vote? Don’t just list down any reason you can think of. Omit those that don’t have as much significance as others.

Still using the same bird sanctuary example, don’t highlight the reason “because we must respect mother nature” in your campaign. Instead, highlight the reason “because the birds are an endangered species” instead.

5) Use respectable references.

One of the most important persuasive writing techniques you should remember is to use credible sources. Wikipedia, though informative, is not your best bet.

Look to academic and professional journals for help or interview someone who is certified to talk about your case. For example, if you’re still writing that bird sanctuary article, don’t include your best friend Benny in your list of references. Find a zoologist with a good reputation to back your findings. Credible sources make you more trustworthy and credible as well.

With these persuasive writing techniques, you’re sure to do really well in whatever you want to use them for. What else are you waiting for? Start writing!

Agreed!
Persuading is easier when you are in a conversation one to one as opposed to persuading a group of people. This is because in a person-to-person communication, you are able to understand the point of view of the other party better. You can nitpick and dig into every single detail, unlike speaking to a group of people, where interaction is generally one sided.

In this type of communication, it is easier for you and the other party to reach a compromise that would be resulted with the best value for both of you.

Briefly, one to one settings are more clear and flexible and it allows not just you to change the course, but also allow you to alter other party’s mindset.

So, How you can get the best results from person to person conversations?

Golden Rule – Have Patience!

You may not persuade the other party on your first attempt or second, even
third! There are situations that a certain idea has to be considered on and
assessed more deeply and critically.

Being too aggressive in persuasion may just ruin opportunity of a good deal.

We’ve seen may saw this situation before. How many times have we been told, “If you attempt to push me again, I will turn you down!”?

Efficient persuasion necessitate skill, not anything pushiness. If you have enough sensitive to detect the symptoms of agreement, you can steer the conversation to a point where you have the opportunity to convert.

If other party doesn’t like to be learning your opinion and you can understand this through his or her body language, then you should know better to try later instead.

Keep Away From Disproving Yourself!

One of the worst things when you are trying to persuade is your penchant to answer back and rebut.

We usually try to pretend to listen to another person’s idea, that we don’t agree to. In fact, the reason we are trying is to prepeare a disproval to the other party’s statements.

No matter how discreet you to try to be at this, he or her will eventually notice that you’re zoned out and will do the same to you.

A discussion has two levels:One is verbal and clear, and the other is based on underlying meanings and subliminal benter. You may achieve to prove your idea or the other party may do it, but nobody really wins.

No one can efficiently persuade if the conversation is just based on a persuasion battle. When you are selling something, this will be your deal killer. In  a friendship, this will burn bridges. This is really undesirable situation. Try to prevent yourself every time you have penchant to do so.

To efficiently persuade another person, you must really believe in your opinion. Honesty and geniune concern for other people will increase your persuasiveness.

If you don’t feel passionate enough the other person will notice this and will not be convinced. It’s not likely that you will be able to effectively sell an opinion you feel nothing about it.

Furthermore, you cannot be successful on persuading if you aren’t open to being persuaded.

Remember, you are not the only person who is trying to get your idea heard. In a one to one conversation, the other person is also trying to persuade you on his or her opinion.

In order to persuade, you must be loyal. Aside from that, you also need to efficiently communicate with your feelings and thoughts. You cannot do this just by saying the things.

You should also use the proper “assertive behavior and body language”. Hence, if you want to improve your persuasion skills, do not be drag.

Be open-minded and show it to other party.Improve your skills and you’ll see noticable achievements when you try to persuade someone.

public speakingLast time, we talked about “Subliminal Persuasion Techniques”. What about Public speaking?… Would you like to enhance your “Persuasive Public Speaking”? What could you do with that power?

First of, it is very useful when I’m trying to persuade a group of friends. When I want them do something, I simply use my persuasion techniques. Shortly, you may have a tons of reasons to learn “persuasive public speaking”.

So, Here I will give you three ways to assist you to become a more persuasive speaker:

1 – Body Language: Non-verbally contacting is the majority of human communication and people generally respond and understand it very well eventhough we didn’t have any formal education on nonverbal language. In order to efficiently connect with your audience, you must care what you are saying with nonverbal cues.

Those include hand gestures, eye contact, pacing and the like to stress your words and sentences.
For example, if you are trying to imply a very important point, you can point a finger up. If you are telling a story, pace a short distance citing you are bringing them to a certain point. You would be really amazed, what difference as an audience it would make if the speaker easily went through his speech purely verbal.

2 – Studying: Influencing is your major concern before you speak to your audience. Therefore, you have to know what you are talking about. You have to persuade them to think about the point which you want to make by citing facts, accepted realities and sources to show that your speech is mainly based on a relevant thing.

Realize that there is no argue or an exchange betwween you and them hence you have to be really mindful of every single aspect of your speech or they may find you stereotypical; or even worse, they can see that you are contradicting your own statements. Do some search amd be open to questions and new ideas before speaking. This will more guide you to be a better persuasive public speaker.

3 – Connection: Treat your audience without caring how much large or small in number, as your best concern. Your audience is the reason of your speech, thus feel for them as if your message will be vain if you can’t convert them to your view point.

You must create a connection with them where your audience to efficiently deliver your message. This will be the base for a charming flow for a duration of the speech and the key of persuasive speaking.

You can do this connection through personal anectodes, some humor or just asking them a speak a little. The aim is to be able to create feelings between you and them where they will know that where your audience will know that it matters to you that they listen.

In persuasive speech, you should know hoe to persuade and convert as a public speaker. Your audience should be influenced to a point of persuasion which your message will effectively received. Repetition of opinions and facts will drive them to your crucial point.

Now,you may need to repeat the three basic rules again: “1- Body language, 2- Studying and 3- Connection”.

These rules will definetely increase your “persuasive public speaking” abilities.

universal laws of persuasion

Subliminal persuasion is influencing people at a level below their subconcious mind. Most of the people do not even realize that they have been won over by a simple smile – thus, making even that a tool for subliminal persuasion.  It is extremely important for you to understand how you can do subliminal persuasion.

There is two way to subliminally pesuade a person: through his or her own words and inflection or some words with certain emphasis in a sentence.

An easy sentence like “I cant help you for that” can have lots of meanings, due to the word you emphasize. Let’s see some examples:

I can’t help you that.  (But somebody else probably could)
I can’t help you that.  (No way that will happen!)
I can’t help you that.  (But, if you’re lucky, you could get it.)
I can’t help you that.  (But I could if it’s somebody else.)
I can’t help you that.  (Maybe I could assure you something else.)

What we mean by inflection is understated. It will also help spare you from being overtly direct, especially if you’re the type who hates the thought of turning someone down(yet you still get to have things go your way)

Another way to subliminally persuade other people is to have them eventually agree with you without them noticing it (because they thought it was their idea)

This is more tricky persuasion technique and most of the people may not agree with it. But, hey, it works!

When negotiating, tell again what the other person told and show that how you can get what they want for them.
Be consistent so you don’t run the risk of contradicting yourself. As long as you posses what the others needs, you hold a benefit.

Here’s an example:

Let’s suppose you are selling used cars to someone. After listening to him or her carefully what he/she wants in a used car, think about the items being wanted in the cars you have in your list. It will be really hard to refuse for him or her since you already know what the other party is looking for.

This is simply what the subliminal persuasion is; and if it is used in the right way, it always works like a charm. Using some clever persuasion techniques to get your desire is not a bad thing That’s how the life is played. This is the way that the rest of the world manages.

The only important thing is always remember going for the win-win solution. If your persuasion knowledge is enough and you have a strong skills, you will have no problem with the winning any person.

Some will call this influence and use it while some will argue and describe this as foolery However, you should choose to view it. I’m using it and experiencing everyday and it is working!

And you will not be amazed if you use these effective persuasion strategies in the future; I mean, if you haven’t used these techniques it the past.
